The other day I was buying cat food when I overheard two people discussing the issue of pet ownership. One said that they felt like everyone deserved to have a pet in their life. It got me thinking: does everyone REALLY “deserve” to have animals as a part of their family?

This is something that the Irreverent Vet discussed not long ago. The subject came up when a news story revealed a mother of octuplets had gone on public assistance. Many people were considering whether everyone deserves to have kids, or whether it really should be just the people who have a lot of disposable income to support them.

Naturally this let me to extend the question to pets. The Irreverent Vet discusses this topic and does a great job at giving you an opinion that I believe most vets believe.
